Just about every car manufacturer now is producing electric vehicles. Subaru has decided to do the same, and they've come up with a model that stands out from the pack. It's called the Solterra. The Solterra is made in collaboration with Toyota, and it uses design features similar to those of their bZ4X model. Design
The new Solterra is similar in size to the Subaru Forester. However, the Solterra will have a more modern SUV design rather than a wagon-like frame. Even the cabin will be unique, offering a high-mounted digital gauge cluster and an elevated center console with a large touchscreen.
Additionally, the Solterra will feature features like a steep windshield, large side glass, and panoramic sunroof. There's also about 30 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded flat, and there are various storage options in the cabin, including a bin under the center console.

Performance
Powering the new Solterra is a 72.8-kWh battery pack and two electric motors. With this combination, the SUV can produce all-electric all-wheel drive, 215 horsepower, and 249 lb.-ft of torque. There's even the ability to dictate how the power is distributed thanks to Solterra's four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode. These drive modes aim to help the Solterra when conditions on the roads are slippery or when the terrain is uneven.
Charging & Range
With a 72.8-kWh battery pack, the new Solterra is estimated to offer around 228 miles when using its 18-inch wheels. However, by equipping the 20-inch wheels, the range will dip slightly to 222 miles. Subaru also says that fully charging the new model from zero should take around nine hours when plugged into a Level 2 charging station. But when hooked up to a 100-kW DC fast charger, the vehicle can reach an 80-percent charge in about 56 minutes.
Technology
As drivers step into the cabin, they'll find an array of technology throughout. In the center of the dash sits a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen, and with it comes Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a wireless phone charger. Other features are also available, such as built-in navigation and an upgraded stereo by Harman/Kardon, but these are optional. For even more convenience, the new Solterra also features the inclusion of a smartphone app, which allows drivers to remotely lock and unlock the doors and control the HVAC system to set the cabin to an ideal temp before getting in.
Safety
Just like every other Subaru model, the Solterra comes with a suite of advanced driver-aids. Standard features include automatic high beams, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking. Also, for the first time, a 360-degree camera system has been installed on a Subaru model.
